If you’re going to get plastered, which undoubtedly most students are, why not do it in style? After all you did pay a hefty sum for your ticket and that tuxedo only comes out once a year. To give pre-drinks a touch of chic, here is a list of some classic cocktails with a twist.
1. Sex on the beach gone sour
Who knew that sex gone sour could be so good?
30ml vodka
20ml Sour apple Schnapps
50ml pineapple juice
60ml cranberry juice
20ml crème de cassis (optional)
2. Lemojito
Cuban classic swaps lime for lemon.
Ingredients:
1 tbsp. sugar
Several sprigs fresh mint
Two slices of lemon
50ml lemon juice
50ml rum
Crushed ice
Soda water or Seven-up (for an extra citrus sweet kick)
Instructions:
Pour lemon juice into glass.
Add sugar and stir until dissolved.
Add mint and lemon slices.
Fill glass with crushed ice and stir until mint leaves start to break.
Pour in 50ml of rum, top with splash of soda water or Seven-Up and stir until mixed.
Finish off with sprig of mint.
3. Minty martini
It’s stirred, not shaken.
Ingredients:
50ml gin
5ml Bailey’s mint
Instructions:
Mix ingredients in glass with ice and stir.
Strain into chilled martini glass.
Top with an olive.
4. Mixed berry margarita
Mexican classic with one of your five a day.
Ingredients:
1 lime wedge
30ml tequila
20ml Orange liqueur
50ml lemon juice
75g frozen berries
1tsp sugar
Instructions:
Place sugar on plate
Rum rim of each glass with lime wedge
Dip rim of each glass in sugar to coat
Place ingredients in food processor and blend until smooth.
Strain with sieve and serve.
6. Long Island Iced Tea with a cherry on top
It might look like Lipton iced tea but that’s where the resemblance ends…
Ingredients:
17.5ml rum
17.5ml vodka
17.5ml gin
17.5ml tequila
17.5ml Orange liqueur
17.5ml lemon juice
Cherry coke
Lemon slice
Instructions:
Fill shaker with ice.
Pour in all alcohol and lemon juice.
Shake until combined and chilled
Pour into glass and top off with cherry coke.
7. Strawberry sunrise
Arizona must enjoy the best sunrise in America.
50ml tequila
150ml pineapple juice
12ml strawberry syrup
Pineapple wedge
Instructions
Pour tequila and pineapple juice into glass filled with ice.
Drizzle in strawberry syrup to create sunrise.
Garnish with pineapple wedge.
8. Blueberry Cosmo
Sex and the City meets superfood.
Ingredients
35ml vodka
10ml orange liqueur
10ml lime juice
45ml Blueberry juice
1 lime twist
Instructions
Pour ingredients into shaker with ice and shake until mixed and chilled.
Strain into glass and serve in chilled martini glass with lime twist.
9. Raspberry Daiquiri
Mojito, Cuba Libre and Daiquiri – the Cubans give the Irish a run for their money.
Ingredients:
100ml rum
200g raspberries
Juice ½ lime
1tbso lemon juice
Lemon slice
Instructions:
Blend raspberries and strain.
Crush ice cubes in blender.
Add strained berries, lime juice, lemon juice and rum
Blitz and pour into chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with slice of lemon.
10. Blue Lagoon meets Red Sea
A tropical ocean twist on a geothermal spa.
Ingredients
50ml vodka
25ml Red Curaçao liqueur
150ml pink lemonade
1 lemon slice
Instructions:
Fill glass with ice.
Add vodka and lemonade and stir.
Drizzle over Red Curaçao liqueur.
Garnish with lemon slice.
11. Wicked Russian
Warning: Russian meets Irish.
Ingredients:
50ml vodka
25ml Bailey orange truffle flavour
Chocolate syrup
Ice cubes
Instructions:
Fill glass with ice.
Add vodka, Baileys and drizzle of chocolate syrup.
