Maguires on Grafton Street, a local institution for Trinity students, is to close on January 18th.
The popular convenience store, located at 109 Grafton Street, will become the site of a new franchise of the health food restaurant chain Chopped, while maintaining its current ownership. The Dublin chain, established in 2012, already has four locations elsewhere in the city – Ballsbridge, Baggot Street, Fairview, and St Stephens Green.
Merely steps away from both the Nassau Street and Front Square entrances to the Trinity campus, Maguires has long been a favourite among Trinity students for its deli options as well as frequent student deals and collaboration with student societies during Freshers’ Week.
In a message posted on its Facebook page, the only online presence the shop currently maintains, Maguires management stated: “To all our loyal customers over the years, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you so much for your business, it really is very much appreciated. You have kept [us] busy through one of the worst recessions the country has ever seen”, adding that “We are very excited about our next chapter for the business and hope you are too”.
