It’s officially Fourth Week. If you missed the boat in Freshers’ Week to try out the various society activities, now is your chance to sample once again what societies have to offer. The beauty of Fourth Week is that it is funded by the Central Societies Committee (CSC) so all events are completely free.
Suas Trinity, DU Amnesty and Trinity Global Development are teaming up to bring you 8×8, a film and photography exhibition which is launching on Monday. This year they are focusing on the global refugee crisis and migration. The festival will be running throughout the week with the first event taking place at the Pomodoro’s Sphere outside the Berkeley Library.
Tonight, DU Germanic Society are hosting Oktoberfest in the Global Room from 7pm. They will be bringing you on a Bavarian adventure with German snacks, viel beer and traditional German music. If you missed your chance to celebrate Oktoberfest in the IFSC earlier this month then this is an event not to be missed.
Alternatively, Caledonian Society will be hosting a class on reeling in the Resource room of the Graduate Memorial Building (GMB) at 7pm. Reeling is a traditional Scottish folk dance. This event will bring you back to the basics and so everyone is welcome regardless of your skill level. However, get down to the Resource Room early to secure your place as there are limited available spaces.
At 7.30pm, French Society in conjunction with the College Historical Society (The Hist) will be hosting a debate. The motion of the debate is “La France est-elle un pays de tolérance”? Or “Is France a country of tolerance?” The debate will be featuring students as well as teaching assistants from the Department of French. This debate is guaranteed to be an interesting one for francophiles and non-francophiles alike, especially considering the recent controversy over the country’s banning of the burkini.
After this, join Trinity Cancer Society (Cancer Soc) with their Pink Party and help them raise much needed funds. The event will be kicking off at 11pm in The Hub in Temple Bar. They will be joined by DU Business and Economics Society (DUBES) and Trinity Ents. The dress code for the night is pink because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tickets for the event are €5 and will be available at the door on the night.
