Happy Body and Soul Week! This week, Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) has lots of exciting events, treats and surprises lined up for you as part of a campaign which encourages students to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. We recommend keeping an eye out for the special Body and Soul stands in the Arts Block and the Hamilton, where they’ll be serving free hot chocolate all week.

Trinity societies have an eccentric range of events to help you relax, rejuvenate and party the week away too. Get the day off to a great start and visit the Puppy Room in the SU Kitchen in House 6. A word of warning though, these events are (understandably) very popular so wrap up warm in case you have to queue outside!

This evening, Dublin Simon Community volunteers will be talking about their experience working with the organisation and discussing the opportunities available to others who would like to make a difference. The city’s homelessness crisis means that volunteers are always needed and this is a great way to do something truly worthwhile. The meeting will be held on Monday at 6pm in room 0.09 in Áras an Phiarsaigh and is in association with Enactus TCD, Trinity Global Development Society and Suas Trinity. Afterwards, why not head over to DU Music’s third open-mic night of the year? It’s taking place upstairs in Doyles at 7.30pm. All styles of music are welcome and attendees are free to just listen or to perform themselves!

On Tuesday, the University Philosophical Society (the Phil) will award their Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage to Prof Brian Cox. The English physicist presents science programmes such as the Wonders of Life and Wonders of the Universe for the BBC. He has written popular science books such as Why Does E=mc²? and The Quantum Universe as well as over 950 scientific publications. He works on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Head over to the GMB for 2pm for what promises to be an explosive event!

Educational opportunities continue to abound in the GMB with Trinity Literary Society’s exploration on a unique perspective of the life and work of Oscar Wilde in the Phil Conversation Room at 7pm. It will centre on Wilde’s relationship with significant women in Irish and British society. This event will be hosted by researcher, writer, journalist and broadcaster Eleanor Fitzsimons. She will be selling copies of her book, Wilde’s Women, on the night.

On Wednesday, the Graduates Student Union (GSU) presents the Postgraduate Language Exchange in association with Trinity French Society and the Italian Society. This event kicks off in the Graduates Common Room at 6.30pm. Come along to practice different languages, meet new people and enjoy some delicious international food.

Then at 7.30pm, DU Archaeological Society will be screening cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the Maxwell Theatre, the Hamilton. The society will be walking over from the Campanile at 7.15pm for anyone who is still a little bit lost around campus!

Trinity Law Society (Law Soc) will also be hosting their Secret Swing event at this time. The decadent mystery location has been revealed- revellers will dance the night away in Stephen’s Green Hibernian Club. Fine finger food, refreshments, and five-star entertainment from the “Paris Swingin’ Lovers” are to be expected. Get your Glad-rags on!

On Thursday, Professor Rosa Chun will be addressing TCD Korean Society with her talk, “What Aristotle Can Teach US about Corporate Social Responsibility”. This talk, taking place in the Joly Theatre in the Hamilton, will examine an alternative approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) based on Prof Chun’s latest article published by Harvard Business Review. It will be followed by a lively debate!

Finally, following on from the success of The Wind That Shakes the Party, the Wall and Moondance, DU History are hosting their annual club night, The Pits, in the Turk’s Head from 11pm! They’ll be taking party-goers back to the 80s, with themed dress highly encouraged. Expect 80s Brit-pop, psychedelia, techno and a hearty dose of Bowie as well as a rumoured appearance of the Iron Lady herself on the night!
