Jonah Craig has been elected Entertainments Officer for Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) on the first count with 84.9 per cent of the vote.
Craig ran unopposed for the position of Entertainments Officer, one of four uncontested races this year.
A third-year business and computer science student, Craig ran his campaign on promises of at least one big event every month, increased inclusivity at Trinity Ents events and wider on the ground engagement and promotion for events.
Speaking to The University Times during the campaign Craig explained what he saw as the main role of the Entertainments Officer: “I think the main job is bringing the college together. You’ve got to be inclusive for absolutely everyone.”
Craig has been involved in Trinity Ents since his first Freshers’ Week, is the current Treasurer of Trinity Ents and held the position of Entertainments Officer for the JCR last year. Craig was also a part of the team that thought up the first mystery tour train event, which has since become a staple of the Trinity Ents calendar, including this year’s Polar Express.
In an interview with The University Times Craig made a pledge to restore the price of Trinity Ball tickets to €80 as long as “there is no external factor (such as construction) that causes an increased amount of insurance”. Craig also outlined a desire “to give an advantage to Trinity students” in the form of early bird or discounted tickets for summer concerts in Trinity College put on by production company, MCD, “because they’re using our campus”
On Monday, The University Times, in a two-day in person-poll of 1,005 students predicted that Craig would win with 89.5 per cent of the vote.
Craig ran just three events during the campaign, a dance workshop in collaboration with Dublin University Dance Club last Friday, a stock-market themed club-night Blue Chip on Monday and a casino night in the Pav in conjunction with TCD Card Soc yesterday.
