Popcorn is teaming up with the Sugar Club once again for a great season of immersive cinema appreciation. The week starting on August 28th will see Tarantino Week take over the Sugar Club. A beloved venue which hosts a range of events attended by Trinity students throughout the year, the Sugar Club is a superb film screening venue. Its tiered seating ensures a premier viewing experience no matter where you are situated. The stylish decor of the Sugar Club recalls the nightclubs of mid-twentieth century New York with velour seats and curved couches surrounding small cocktail tables topped with tasteful lamps. The location itself sets the perfect tone for a week of enjoying Tarantino’s resume of cult classics.
The week-long tribute to now legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino kicks off with the first of several Pulp Fiction screenings on Monday August 28th. Of course, Jackie Brown, True Romance, Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds will all be making appearances as the week goes on. So, whatever your Tarantino preference may be, there’s nothing stopping you from experiencing it in all its glory on the big screen with a cocktail in one hand and popcorn in the other. The week will go out with a bang, showcasing one of Tarantino’s finest films, Reservoir Dogs, closing the series of screenings on Monday September 4th.
Undoubtedly, the centre piece of the week will be the Friday and Saturday-night screenings of Pulp Fiction. These nights have been dubbed not as screenings but as “A Night of Pulp Fiction” and will expand into a full immersive experience and celebration of the film. The event screenings are enjoying their third year of returning to the Sugar Club and are annually in high demand. Be sure to book tickets for this and all events this week early to avoid missing out as each screening is limited to only 150 tickets. These Friday and Saturday night screenings will be followed by a DJ set by Critter from the Swamp. The DJ set will feature music from and inspired by Pulp Fiction with genres ranging from rockabilly to soul, funk, and garage rock among others. These after parties are also open to those who did not attend the film itself, with the option of paying in at the door from 11pm. The Sugar Club encourages fancy dress at these parties which, although not essential, will surely add to the atmosphere of the night. As an added incentive to make the evening as interactive as possible, there will be spot prizes on the night for the best dressed and of course, the best dancers.
Each screening during the Sugar Club’s Tarantino Week will feature table service all night long to complete this VIP cinema experience. Attendees can choose from the venue’s wide selection of cocktails, craft beers, wines and artisan pizzas. Although, the real music to any film fan’s ears is that gourmet popcorn is included in the price of your ticket. All the components are in place to ensure that Tarantino week at the Sugar Club will be a high-class cinema season full of food, drink, music and film, all in celebration of one of the most widely appreciated and certainly most widely known filmmakers of our time.
