Nearing essay season, why not relieve some stress and put down the books to take full advantage of the events that Trinity’s societies have to offer you. This week is Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) Mental Health Week, a week aimed to help you find the best ways to support your own mental health and take care of yourself while doing so. The week is jam-packed with different events, including a puppy room, the chance to win free burritos and self-care workshops.
Monday
Cumann Gaelach and DU International Students Society (DUISS) are joining forces this Monday to bring you “Speak Me, I’m Irish!” This event promises an evening full of craic and culture, as Irish students teach international students all things Irish, ranging from Irish slang to the trickiest names that the Irish language has to offer. Traditional music will be playing all evening, with Bailey’s and snacks also provided. Speak Me, I’m Irish! will be starting at 7pm in Seomra na Gaeilge.
Tuesday
This Tuesday, the Bram Stoker Paper Reading Club will be hosting Jack Kennedy, an engineering student, as he reads his paper “Rocket Men: Nuclear War in the 21st Century” at 2pm in the Phil Conversation Room of the Graduates Memorial Building (GMB). The paper-reading about the threat of nuclear conflict in our era will be followed by a Q&A discussion, in which members of the audience can ask any questions they might have following the reading. Also, did I mention free tea and biscuits?
Wednesday
As a part of TCDSU’s Mental Health Week, the TCDSU will be hosting an event in collaboration with DU Meditation and the Visual Arts society (VisArts). The event, Chill Ville, will be held in the Graduate Students’ Union (GSU) Common Room from 4-6pm and is guaranteed to facilitate your de-stress. What better way to spend a Wednesday evening than chilling out with the lovely societies involved and making some art? If that doesn’t do it for you then maybe the possibility of free tea and snacks will!
Thursday
At 12pm on Thursday, the College Historical Society (the Hist) will present a talk with John Pilger. Their first Burke Medallist of the year, John Pilger is an award-winning journalist and BAFTA-winning documentary filmmaker. Pilger began his career in Australia in 1959, and from there has become a world-renowned journalist and documentary filmmaker.
Join DU Photo Association (DUPA) this Thursday evening on a journey to Beckett Bridge, and then over to the Grand Canal Dock for some long exposure landscape photography practice. Because they’ll be shooting in low light conditions and using long exposures, DUPA recommend that anyone interested in coming bring tripods with them to the walk. Not to worry if you don’t have your own, DUPA has a small supply available to rent for the walk, just email [email protected] to check availability. Depending on the weather, they’ll be meeting outside the Science Gallery at 6pm.
