Students were seen streaming from the Arts Block this afternoon, after a mystery smell forced many to leave the first floors of the building.
The smell, experienced by reporters for The University Times, closely resembled faecal matter and sulphur.
The source of the smell remains unclear, though security guards speaking to The University Times attributed it to the plumbing, implying that it was being cleaned out.
While the smell didn’t reach the upper floors, students and tourists could be seen leaving the Arts Block. Doors to the building were propped open, in order to alleviate the smell.
The smell also reached as far as the Lecky, where some students opted to relocate to more alternative study spots rather than endure the mystery odour.
In recent weeks, the Arts Block has had something of a refurbishment, with a new cafe opened and new decorations being installed.
