Amy Becker, the up-and-coming DJ whose mix of grime, hip-hop and dance is taking London for all it’s worth, will be coming to Yamamori Tengu, Great Strand Street, on November 25th. With grimey beats and inventive genre mash-ups, this one is for serious dance fans who crave the freshest music available.
Local household name collective Sim Simma has booked Amy Becker exactly a year since they brought her to Dublin with Wah Wah Club. Becker is right at home with Sim Simma, which brings its signature take on the Caribbean and South American sound everywhere it goes, adding to the growing diversity in the Dublin clubbing scene. Four years on from the group’s inception, it has added an array of events to its belt. From gracing the stages of Irish festivals to reggae yoga classes and bringing in big-name acts for one-time special gigs, Sim Simma rarely disappoints.
Becker is one of the most interesting DJs to come out of the woodwork recently and is at the crest of a wave hitting Britain’s bass scene. Becker’s ability to stitch together genres like reggaeton, grime, garage and transatlantic trap with remarkable technical skill has earned her praise from both revelers and music critics. A spot on Cracked Magazine’s Top 50 most exciting DJs in the world is nothing to sniff at, and in Becker’s case, it is well deserved.
Track selection is a gift bestowed onto the most talented DJs, and Becker doesn’t disappoint. Becker’s carefully curated set will be one to please fans of grime and rap. Tengu, the late-night restaurant and bar, has started to make a name for itself as a solid venue for hosting nights out. Amongst its oriental decor, the bar-turned-club offers a change of pace from the usual dimly lit interiors of Dublin venues. Becker’s show is one of several events lined up for a Yamamori location – the Izakaya venue hosts DJs seven nights a week, and now the Ormond Quay bar is looking to take part in the Dublin club game as well. Its dark backdrop and intimate setting is perfectly suited to Becker’s style.
Taking place on November 25th, Amy Becker is set to be one of the biggest nights out of November and hopes to be another solid entry on Sim Simma’s growing clubland CV.
