Aimee Connolly has been elected Education Officer of Trinity College Students’ Union (TCDSU) on the first count, winning 83 per cent of the vote.
As the sole candidate in a race that has been nearly perennially uncontested, fourth-year BESS student Connolly won easily.
The results of a poll of 1,060 students conducted over three days, published by The University Times on Monday, saw Connolly on course to win the election with 87.4 per cent of first preference votes.
Throughout the campaign period, Connolly, the chairperson of DU Amnesty, proved to be a remarkably consistent candidate. Her manifesto points focused on incremental reforms to the role of the Education Officer, the most notable of these being the introduction of a specific Facebook page for Education.
As the incoming Education Officer, she’ll be expected to address the challenges of the Trinity Education Project.
Last year, incumbent TCDSU Education Officer Alice MacPherson was elected with 85.4 per cent of the vote.
