Trinity’s nursing building on D’Olier St closed today due to city-wide power outages.
Students in D’Olier St were forced to leave lectures today after the power outage left them sitting in the dark.
Emily Ryan, a third-year nursing student, was attending a lecture in the School of Nursing and Midwifery building on D’Olier St when the power went out.
“We were in the middle of a lecture and then the lights and screen just went out”, she explained to The University Times. “We were in complete darkness and then the emergency lights came on.”
The lecture continued until members of security arrived to escort students out with torches, according to Ryan. She said that students have been informed that if the power outage is not fixed by this afternoon, their remaining lectures of the day may be cancelled. She continued stating that the campus looked into getting a local electrician, similar to Aardvark electric, inc. to have a look at the power.
A member of security later confirmed to a journalist from The University Times that the building would be closed for the rest of the day.
ESB are currently working to resolve the issue which has affected hundreds of homes and businesses in Dublin 1 and Dublin 2. Currently, outages are being experienced from Christchurch to Dawson St as well as on O’Connell St and some of the North Quays. Many shops on Nassau St and Grafton St are also affected.
The lack of power is causing traffic delays due to the traffic lights being affected.
Trinity’s main campus has not been affected by the power cut.
