George Ezra will headline Trinity Ball in April, with Circa Waves and Hannah Wants adding clout to the annual ball’s line-up.

For months, students have speculated over the annual festival’s line-up, after an email from Sony UK seemed to suggest that Ezra would be playing Trinity Ball. At the time, TCDSU Entertainments Officer Jonah Craig refused to confirm if Ezra would be playing.

The line-up was revealed tonight at a launch party in the Graduates Memorial Building. In previous years, Trinity Ball launches have either underwhelmed or triggered online mockery. Jax Jones, Tom Walker and Versatile were first reported to be the names on the line-up in January by The University Times.

Former professional women’s football player turned tech house DJ, Hannah Wants is one of the bigger names in the line-up. Raised in the garage generation and now a world-renowned British DJ, you will recognize Wants for hits such as “Rhymes” and her most recent “Girls & Boys”.

Circa Waves, a Liverpudlian formed indie-rock band, will also play at the ball. These four boys are a product of the last decade’s rock-guitar fuelled explosion that has reverberated throughout the UK charts. Following the likes of Wolf Alice, Circa Waves have made a name for themselves with their second album Different Creatures that is deeper and denser than their debut. Songs you may have heard include “Stuck” and “Fire That Burns”.

IAMDDB, real name Diana Debrito, is a 21 year-old artist that hails from Manchester, who calls her sound “urban jazz”. She is quickly rising through the ranks to become one of the most promising artists of 2017. Her tracks mix elements of samba, reggae, trap and jazz. “Shade” and “Trophy” were two of her biggest hits in 2017.

In contrast to some of the headlines previously outlined is the slightly more weathered DJ Mr Scruff. Andy Carthy is a shapeshifter of genres, drawing inspiration from snippets of soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae and more. The 2008 mix Ninja Tuna cemented his reputation and features solid collaborations with the likes of Roots Manuva. His latest album, Friendly Bacteria, features Denis Jones, Matthew Halsall, Phil France, Vanessa Freeman and Robert Owens.

Following the headliners, this year’s Trinity Ball will also see Friend Within, Sinead Harnett, Hak Baker, 67, Wild Youth, OR:LA, Mango X Mathman, Denis Sulta and Jafaris and the Trinitones take to the stage. This year’s line-up displays a good variety of genres, even if the dance tent seems like it could be the highlight of this year’s ball.
