Ben Cummins is set to lead a majority male JCR team, after being elected the next JCR president tonight with 57 per cent of the vote.
Despite a push towards women running for leadership by the current JCR and a majority of female candidates, there will still only be two women on the incoming committee.
Cummins was elected on the third count, with 548 valid votes cast. He ran a campaign that focused on streamlining the introduction of the Trinity Education Project for Halls students, the introduction of student-run clubs and an accommodation advisory scheme.
Keane Ryan was elected to the position of Vice-President and Treasurer on the first count with 50.7 per cent of the vote. Tate Donnelly is the new Secretary, receiving 52.4% of the vote on the second count. Stefano Paparoni was elected Sports Officer, receiving 54.7 per cent of the vote on the second count. The position of Music Officer was won by Cathal O’ Driscoll, who finally received 41.9 per cent of the vote on the sixth count. Raphi Patterson won the position of Ents Officer on the third count, with 57.1 per cent of the vote. Salem Barakat is the new International Officer, elected on the third count with 57 per cent of the vote. Rebecca Sweeney was elected to the position of Welfare Officer, receiving 47 per cent of the vote on the fifth count.
The positions of Technology Officer, Publications Officer, and Communications and Marketing Officer are chosen through interviews and portfolio submissions by the current JCR officer in the position. They were announced just before the count, with the positions being awarded to Laura Owens, Seán Cahill and Cian Fogarty respectively.
The new JCR committee will commence their term in May for the 2018/19 academic year in Trinity Hall.
