Tonight sees the opening of Dublin University Photography Association’s (DUPA) End of Year exhibition. If you are an avid photographer, tend to try take more “artsy” selfies or just fancy hanging out in a gallery with some glasses of wine, the exhibition is bound to be inspiring. The exhibition is collected from an open call and includes all sorts of genres, from classic black & white to street photography and portraiture, all curated by the dedicated DUPA committee. Applicants were all members of DUPA and were free to submit any material they liked to then be considered and curated by the committee.
DUPA has won numerous prizes over the years in a number of different criteria, notably last year it won the Central Societies Committee’s Societies of the Year Award for Best Magazine, which happened to be a catalogue of the End of Year exhibition.
The society, and this event in particular, has a precedent for putting out quality work. Students in DUPA have attended various workshops, including lightdrawing and Bokeh effects talks by established photographers and other events all run by the society, with the aim of improving the technical and creative skills of its members.
As well as a brilliant selection of the photographic talent of our students on campus, it’s an opportunity to see what everyone in the DUPA society has been getting up to after another year full of workshops and events. Kicking off at 7pm in the Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, it is definitely not to be missed!
