Nothing says busy quite like a coffee to go and a Danish pastry. Time may seem of the essence as we collectively become anxious wrecks and descend into exam hysteria, but keep in mind that it is often the small things that keep us sane. Be kind to yourself and treat yourself to a hot chocolate or a slice of cake.
Carluccio’s
Get any coffee and a pastry for €3.95, seven days a week. Carluccio’s also has a pasta box deal from noon onwards, when you can choose from a selection of four types of pasta for €6.95. Considering how filling and tasty Carluccio’s pastas are, this is a really good value deal.
Dolce Sicily
At this original Sicilian pastry shop, get any regular coffee and any croissant (including plain, peach, almond, chocolate, cream and pistachio) for €3.50. The only catch is that it must be takeaway. Add 20c for any large coffee.
Mooch
Mooch is currently offering a special student deal of any coffee for €2.25. If you feel like treating yourself, add a brownie for only €1. Students can also benefit from 25c off per topping.
Il Fornaio
Italy is well represented on Dawson St, but Il Fornaio coffee always wins me over. The coffee is slightly nuttier than most and not too bitter like some darker roasts. For the occasional punter, you can get any regular coffee and a plain croissant or mini tart for €4.50. Or, go all out with a chocolate or custard-filled one for an extra 50c. If you are in need of more carbs, they serve paninis all day with any coffee for €8.50.
Cafe Sol
Tucked away at the edge of the Royal Hibernian Way, the tiny outdoor shopping mall linking Grafton and Dawson St, Cafe Sol can offer some respite from the craziness of the two streets. They use Bewley’s coffee beans, and are currently promoting their all-day “Sweet Deal”. For €4.25, you can get any regular coffee and pastry. They also have a small selection of tasty sandwiches and salads ranging from €5.95 to €6.45.
