After 35 years of feeding heads of state, provosts and world-renowned academics, Trinity’s Head Chef Max is retiring today.
There was an outpour of well wishes and affection for the Head Chef on Facebook today. One post on Trinity College Catering’s Facebook read: “Our Head Chef Max has been at the core of our Operations for 35 years. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all at the Trinity Catering Department. We wish him the very best for his retirement.”
Provost Patrick Prendergast called in to thank the Head Chef and to wish him well in his retirement. But Prendergast isn’t the only provost that Head Chef Max has worked for. “During this time he has worked under 4 Provosts, cooked for dignitaries such as Nelson Mandela and Hilary Clinton, raised 2 kids and welcomed one grandchild in to the world”, another Facebook post read.
Trinity Catering revealed that one of Chef Max’s favourite events were the “Trinity Term Dinners”. Held in the third term, when classes are over and after new Scholars and Fellows have been announced, the dinner is attended by the heads of departments and the Provost. Max was also featured on the Facebook page with the French Department’s Dr Edward Arnold, the College Steward and Cellarer, who he worked closely with in planning the meal and wine pairings for the Trinity Tern Dinners.
The Head Chef was also pictured with many beloved colleagues, some of whom said they “miss him already”.
