Around 150 students showed up to last night’s Ents event with counterfeit wristbands.
Eat Sleep Réabh Arís was organised collaboratively by Cumann Gaelach, Law Soc, Dublin University Business and Economics Society (DUBES) and Trinity Ents. It was held in DTwo nightclub on Harcourt St.
The event featured performances from Boots & Kats, an electronic duo from Dublin, as well as Kneecap, a hip-hop band hailing from Belfast.
In an email statement to The University Times, Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) Ents Officer David Flood said that the bands were “easily spotted”.
“It was obviously not the right band”, he said.
The doormen, provided by Trinity Ents, are briefed every night on what the bands should look like and are shown photos of the band.
“They were refused entry as we had already reached capacity of 1400. Pretty gas to be fair, they’ll have to do better than that in future”, Flood said.
During freshers’ week, Trinity Ents runs events every night of the week in collaboration with societies. Students can buy a band to access all events or individual bands for each night. The fake bands were copies of the bands
Flood said that students did not object when they were turned away for having fake bands.
This year, the annual Freshers’ Ball will be held in week one of term – next Wednesday – instead of the usual date during freshers’ week.
Monday saw Trinity Ents hold 1960s-themed Freshstival in the Mercantile with the University Philosophical Society (the Phil), DU Music Society and Trinity Arts Festival. On Tuesday, DU Players, Trinity Musical Theatre and DU Dance Society put on Cabarave with Ents. Tonight, DU Snowsports, Trinity Surf Club and DUDJ will come together with Ents to put on Chowder Powder Louder in Turks Head.
