Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) has elected two students to the roles of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) Faculty Convenerand Sports Officer this evening.
The positions were both uncontested and one other part-time officer position – Student Parent Officer. No one present at the meeting of council put themselves forward for the role.
Ray Carey was elected AHSS Faculty Convenor, while Darragh Flood was elected Sports Convenor.
The positions were freed up due to resignations of both officers, who were elected at the last council of last year. Typically, students must make a one-minute speech to pitch themselves as a candidate, but given that no other candidates put themselves forward for the role, the students were deemed automatically elected.
The AHSS Faculty Convenor coordinates meetings with class representatives within the faculty and represents students at faculty level, as well as at University Council.
Sport Convenor coordinates the union’s sports campaign week, and works closely with Trinity Sport.
Part-time officers sit on Union Forum, TCDSU’s executive, which meets roughly fortnightly to discuss union policy.
Carey takes over from Rory Codd, while Darragh Flood takes over from Róisín Harbison.
