Trinity Meteors have picked up two awards in the Basketball Ireland Players and Coaches of the Month accolades for November.
Sarah Kenny was selected for the Women’s Division 1 Player of the Month award, while Trinity head coach Vinnie O’Keefe won the Coach of the Month award in the same category.
Kenny has produced a number of outstanding displays in the recent weeks for Meteors. Just last week, she inspired her side to an impressive National Cup victory, scoring a number of crucial baskets as Trinity dispatched of Griffith College Templeogue to advance to the semi-finals.
Kenny has been a sports scholar at Trinity since she began her undergraduate degree in 2017. She was one of six students who were awarded a scholarship in basketball this year, including Meteors teammates Carolyn Binder, Lauren Grigsby, Edel Thornton and Niamh Kenny.
Vinnie O’Keefe, a former international basketball player, joined Meteors at the beginning of the 2018/2019 season. O’Keefe has presided over Trinity’s fine run of form this season, which has seen them win five out of their six league matches so far. Meteors sit just three points off the top of the table with a game in hand.
Meteors are also in the last four of the Division 1 National Cup. They will face Ulster University in January for a place in the final.
Meteors are back in league action this weekend. They will travel to Belfast tomorrow to face Phoenix Rockets. Rockets have won just one of their five league matches this season.
