It’s day two of this year’s weird but wonderful freshers’ week. With you’re first day under your belt, hopefully you can settle into the fun that Trinity’s societies have in store for you over the next 24 hours. Here are our top picks for the day ahead.
Humans of Players, 2pm
Every day this week, DU Players will be hosting a live interview with one of its members to chat about the society and the opportunities it can offer you. This is a great chance to get to know the faces of Europe’s most active college theatre society in a candid but informative way, without lagging Zoom calls or awkward silences. The interview will begin at 2pm every day and a recording will be uploaded on the DU Players’ Instagram account so you can watch it later.
‘Locktails’ with Ents, 4pm
Trinity Ents is one of the key organisers of freshers’ week and this year, despite some challenges, is no different. Ents has teamed up with LawSoc and Trinity Hall to add some elegance to your student accommodation alcoholism. It’s up to you to decide if the “lock” refers to lockdown, or getting locked. Shaken or stirred, it’s an excuse to drink something else that isn’t a Tesco lager. The event begins at 4pm on Zoom and is for Halls residents only.
Dismantling Direct Provision Panel, 7pm
Trinity Vincent de Paul and DU Politics Society are collaborating to bring you a panel discussion on the issue of Direct Provision in Ireland. The speakers will include Amanda Nyoni (member of the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland), Roderic O’Gorman TD (Green Party) and Nick Henderson (Chief Executive of the Irish Refugee Council). They will discuss how they hope to end Direct Provision and what will come next. The event begins at 7pm.
Phictionary, 7pm
Is serious debating not your thing? Well, fear not – you can still get a glimpse of Trinity’s debating societies in action in a less formal setting. The University Philosophical Society will be joining forces with their old debating rivals, the College Historical Society, to bring you a fun and fresh game of Pictionary. Get ready for a night of messy doodles and not-so-friendly competition. The event begins at 7pm.
A Sustainable Upcycling Mixer, 8pm
Remember that top you bought on sale because it was a fiver, but that you knew you’d never wear? Why not give it a new lease on life? Say goodbye to fast fashion and hello to upcycling with Trinity Fashion Society and Trinity Visual Arts Society. Materials will be delivered to residents of Trinity Halls, but the event welcomes all students who are ready to level-up their wardrobes in a sustainable way. The event begins at 8pm.
