Trinity’s Exam Hall is to be used as a “class space” for students who have face-to-face classes and online classes one after the other, College has said.

The Marquee at Botany Bay and the former Bank of Ireland space will also be available for use by students attending online classes.

In an email to students, director of student services Breda Walls said: “In partnership with the SU and GSU, we have created some additional spaces for your use on campus.”

“These are bookable spaces for you to use if you are already on campus for a face to face class and have an online class shortly before or after.”

“Please bring your laptop and your headphones”, Walls added.

These spaces will be open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and must be booked in advance.

Walls also said that a number of bookable “student breakout spaces” will be available “to use in breaks between classes, to eat your food, have a €1 coffee and keep warm in a socially distanced way”.

These spaces are the lobby and common room in Goldsmith Hall, the Knowledge Exchange room in TBSI, marquees in New Square and the Old Stone Building Student Spaces in St James’s Hospital.

The Dining Hall will be available as a student space until the Buttery closes at 4pm each day, after which time students can use the Buttery Vaults. The Botany Bay marquee breakout space will be available exclusively for Trinity Hall residents.

Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) announced last month the opening of a number of new student spaces across campus this semester.

Each space will have to be booked in advance by students and will be available for 45 minute slots. The spaces will be cleaned professionally every morning by college staff and there will be a 15-minute gap between bookings to allow for cleaning.

TCDSU is working with College to develop the former Bank of Ireland branch in the Hamilton Building “into a welcoming and accessible student space”. The space was vacated by the bank in August, after it ended its years-long partnership with Trinity.

TCDSU said that it expects to be able to accommodate 430-480 students per hour across all of the student spaces.
