Prof Linda Doyle launched her campaign video for the Provost elections today at a live-streamed event titled after her manifesto, “Imagine Trinity”.
The event opened with Doyle’s new campaign video, which provides an overview of both her personal life and her professional accomplishments. It was followed by a short interview where Doyle spoke with Prof Neville Cox, Trinity’s former Dean of Graduate Studies, and video endorsements from three members of Trinity staff.
In her campaign video, Doyle said she felt “at home” when she arrived in Trinity in 1989 and was struck by the progressive nature of the university.
“That ability to challenge society and point Ireland in a progressive direction should always excite us”, said Doyle in the video.
She highlighted her teaching experience, the successful founding of the CONNECT research centre and the creation of Trinity’s research charter as Dean of Research as her main professional achievements.
“With your support, there are no limits to what we can be”, said Doyle to conclude the video.
Prof Cox, a long-time friend and colleague of Doyle, called her campaign a “movement for change” in his introduction.
“I’m so honoured to be here introducing Linda Doyle who is my friend and my hero in terms of an approach to what Trinity can be,” said Cox.
Cox’s interview of Doyle reinforced her focus on cultivating “deep-rooted fairness” throughout the university and harnessing the university community’s creativity to solve the challenges Trinity faces.
Finally, Doyle received video endorsements from three members of Trinity staff: Prof Isabel Rozas from the School of Chemistry, Dr David O’Shaughnessy from the School of English and Dr Jo-Hanna Ivers from the School of Medicine.
Cox concluded by calling Doyle’s manifesto “the most exciting vision I’ve encountered in my 30 years in education”.
“[This] has been an exciting introduction to who you are, what you stand for and what Imagine Trinity is. I want nothing more than to have your values leading Trinity for the next decade.”
