Trinity will be operating a walk-in vaccination centre in the Dining Hall from next week, where staff and students can receive their first, second or booster shot.

The centre will operate from Monday, January 10th, to Thursday, January 14th. No appointment is necessary to attend.

As per the HSE’s press release on New Year’s Eve, those wishing to receive a vaccine must provide a form of photo ID which contains proof of date of birth, such as a passport or driving licence.

The booster dose should be given at a minimum of three months since the recipient’s second dose.

If the recipient has contracted coronavirus since their second dose they must wait three months from the date they contracted the virus to receive the booster.

The opportunity to register for a booster shot became available for those aged between 16-29 years on New Year’s Eve.

Trinity held similar walk-in vaccination centres in September and October. The HSE vaccination centre on campus was one of 11 centres in colleges announced by the Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.

Director of College Health Service David McGrath said at the time: “This is an excellent opportunity for our students and staff to get vaccinated to make our campus as safe as possible.”

“I strongly encourage as many people as possible to participate in the vaccination programme”, he said.

“It will be especially beneficial to our international students who may not have a recognised vaccination in Ireland.”

Yesterday, master’s students in genomic medicine were told that their laboratory practicals were to be moved online due to rising coronavirus case numbers.
The shift applies to all genomic medicine laboratory practicals taking place from next Monday, January 10th. Students were not told when the lab sessions would be held in person again.

An email to affected students said: “For the lab practical starting next Monday, we decided to run this remotely without wet-lab work as the COVID19 situation is getting extremely worse.”

Foundation Scholarship (Schols) exams and first-year exams are due to begin next Monday.

In an email statement to The University Times, Trinity Media Relations Officer Catherine O’Mahony said: “As it stands, the plan is indeed for exams (both Schols and those JF that are scheduled to be in person) to go ahead in person. The usual caveat applies to this; unless public health guidelines change.”
