Chloe Staunton has been elected Welfare and Equality Officer of Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU), defeating Cúnla Morris.
Staunton received 999 first-preference votes from a total valid poll of 1,500. Morris won 433 votes.
Speaking after she was elected, Staunton thanked Morris, and her campaign team, before saying: “I think I have been talking so much the past few weeks, I don’t have anything left to say.”
Staunton’s victory follows a strong campaign during which her consistent performances at Hustings highlighted her confidence and ability to perform well under pressure.
On the campaign trail, she highlighted compassion and accessibility. Both Staunton and Morris emphasised their prior union roles and drew upon their prior experience. Staunton is the union’s current officer for students with a disability.
Regarding her ambitions for the role, Staunton has said that consent education and reviewing the T fund will be priorities of hers. She also wants to improve the relationship between TCDSU and students.
Staunton was previously awarded the Dean’s Leadership Award for her work as a Student 2 Student (S2S) Equality Officer. She is the current S2S secretary as well as a Head Mentor and S2S Ambassador.
