Trinity Med Day – an organisation run by Trinity medical students, held its annual fundraising event for their teaching hospitals on Friday, November 8th. The event is part of a series of fundraising projects which successfully raised 1,000,000 euro between 2002 and 2022.
The occasion involves over 600 medical students waking up at dawn and bucket collecting throughout the city while wearing eye-catching red “med day” t-shirts.
The money raised will go towards research projects, medical equipment, and healthcare facilities.
This year, their key beneficiary is Street Reach at St James’ Hospital, a health clinic which provides medical care to marginalised groups, like the homeless. Med Day wishes to fund an electric vehicle with treatment space so the clinic can expand their outreach. They have committed to raising 20,000 euro for these causes this year.
Other causes they took onboard include providing care for children with cancer, improving efficiency during pleural procedures, and helping hospice patients access specialised wheelchairs, among others.
The fundraiser came to an end with celebrations at the Pav, marking the close of a fruitful succession of Med Day events this past year.
