This year, this student-run committee has organised a raffle to fundraise bursaries for second year students from the Trinity Access Programme (TAP) studying for the Schols exams.
The subcommittee is currently fundraising to make participation in the Foundation Scholarship exams more accessible to students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
Rachel Chen, scholars’ secretary and TAP student told The University Times: “Studying for schols can be daunting, especially for the many students that need to work to support themselves through college. This bursary was introduced by the Scholars’ Committee, in collaboration with Trinity Access Programme, to facilitate students in these situations to take time off to be able to study for the exams.
“All Senior Fresh students who’ve come to Trinity via TAP can make an application for a bursary, and the successful recipients of the bursaries are selected by TAP staff members. In its first year, this grassroots initiative is currently providing three €500 bursaries to TAP students studying for the coming scholarship exams, and we’ve already raised enough to provide even more bursaries next year.”
“We extend our best wishes to all bursary recipients and everyone sitting Schols exams over the coming weeks.”
Tickets for the raffle cost €5 each and the draw will take place on Friday 20th December.
The prizes on offer include an afternoon tea for two at the Shelbourne, a €200 cosmetic dermatology voucher from the Institute of Dermatologists, two separate €100 restaurant vouchers for the Trocadero and Marco Pierre White restaurant, a €70 Dada Moroccan restaurant voucher, two Guinness Storehouse tickets, lunch for two at Trinity City Hotel, two Grafton Barber’s “Shampoo Cut & Blow-Dry” vouchers, two €25 Mint Nails vouchers, a Lucy’s Lounge goody bag, a candle and toiletries set, and ten Bóbó’s burger vouchers.
