It’s set to be an exciting year in the art community as artists are embracing the opportunity for more exhibitions and larger attendee capacities and galleries focus on curating new and interesting exhibitions. Below are some of the top five exhibits to look forward to in 2022 that are sure to awaken your artistic imagination.
National Photography Collection Inaugural Exhibition
The inaugural photography collection exhibition at the Gallery of Photography Ireland features a wide range of established and emerging photographers from Ireland as it attempts to capture and draw attention to the rising artists of this sphere. This exhibition is on display until March 31st and is an excellent opportunity to investigate the place of photography in modern Irish society. Admission is free to the Gallery.
Temple Bar Gallery + Studios
The Temple Bar Gallery and Studios are known for their work with in-house artists and this month they’re celebrating the work of 2018 Studio Project award winner Tamsin Snow, as part of a three-year residency at the Temple Bar Gallery. The work currently on display aims to look at the intersections between art and the human body, posing questions about the medical field and biotech.
Meeting in Isfahan
This exhibition at the Chester Beatty Library features 65 images from the 17th and 18th century, spanning Persian, Turkish, Arabic and Armenian collections. It shines a light on Safavid Isfahan, former capital of Iran, which was a prime centre for arts and culture. As always, the entrance to the Chester Beatty Library is free and these works will be on display from February 4th until August 28th.
The RHA’s 192nd Annual Exhibition
Opening in May, The RHA’s 192nd annual exhibition will exhibit work from artists from various backgrounds selected through an open call. Last year, 391 artists were chosen from 3,900 submitted works. This is a must-see for anyone hoping to gain a good, solid grasp of the pulse of the art community in Dublin and Ireland. Tickets to the RHA are free.
The National Gallery’s Celebrating Ulysses
Literature and art intersect in this exhibition as the National Gallery puts together a wonderful collection of never before seen drawings and etchings to celebrate the centenary of the publication of Ulysses. Scenes depicted from the novel allow both art forms to communicate seamlessly with each other. This exhibition will be on display from May 21st until August 21st. Entry to this exhibition is free.
