Buster Whaley Elected TCDSU Education Officer.

Whaley won on first count with 59.2% of the votes.

Buster Whaley has been elected as TCDSU Education Officer with 1,549 votes. He defeated Conchúr Ó Cathasaigh, who received 984 votes. 

 

In his speech to the students Whaley thanked his campaign team, his sister, and his girlfriend.

Whaley received 1549 votes, which was 59.2% of the total valid votes cast. Meanwhile, Ó Cathasaigh received 984 votes, making up 36.5% of the votes. The total votes cast were 2694. 209 votes were spoiled. 

 

A recent poll from The University Times predicted Ó Cathasaigh would become the next Education Officer with 48%. However, it was a close race, with Whaley predicted to take 40% of the votes, with the remaining 12% of votes going to RON.

 

Whaley, a fourth year PPES student and current Co-Editor-in-Chief of TN2 Magazine ran a campaign focused on implementing modular billing and affordable food on campus. Whaley has previously. 

 

His competitor, Conchúr Ó Cathasaigh, focused his campaign on increased responsiveness, exam policies, and Irish language initiatives. Ó Cathasaigh previously served as the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC). 

 

The race for President remains to be called.
