The Thursday of Freshers’ Week promises a jam-packed day of fun and cool events before the night ahead at either the Trinity Ents night with DU Snowsports, DUDJ and Trinity Surf Deep Freeze: SeaBass in Tramline or the Phil’s headline night, Club Philth, in the Grand Social.
Free massages all day at the DUCTS stand:
No doubt at this stage in the week you are all feeling the aches and pains of the Freshers’ flu you will definitely come down with come Friday evening. To help you stave off the illness for another day, DU Clinical Therapy Society is providing free shoulder massages all day at their stand. Although the physiotherapists mightn’t be able to cure your hangover, they can certainly make you party-ready for the biggest night out of the week.
DUDJ Pav Takeover with Patrick Topping:
After speaking to DUDJ and the University Philosophical Society (the Phil), DJ Patrick Topping will assist DUDJ with their takeover at the Pav. From 4pm to 7pm this evening, the Pav will be open exclusively for members of DUDJ. This is sure to be as successful as the memorable Lawngitude event they hosted last year. If one thing is certain, it’s that the music will be class, so you better get yourself down there to hear it.
Drag and Drinks:
In the Atrium at 5.30pm, Queen Pixie Woo, also known as “Queen of PrHomo” will join QSoc to teach the art of drag. Whether you religiously watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race or have only occasionally wondered how drag queens always manage to look so damn fine, then this is the event for you. There will be drinks, there will be drag, what more could you possibly want? This event is BYOG (Bring Your Own Glitter).
Battle of the Parties with PolSoc:
Trinity’s Political Society is proud to present what they call “one of the highlights of Freshers Week in Trinity”. The battle of the parties will feature all of the youth wings of Ireland’s political parties in the college converging in room 2043 in the Arts Block at 6pm to pitch to you the merits of joining their society in what promises to be a very feisty debate. Afterwards, the group plans to head to the Longstone pub on Townsend St to have casual chats and some food.
Language Pub Crawl:
After DUDJ finishes its takeover of the Pav, the Language Pub Crawl will be starting there at 7.30pm. Join the Europa, Hispanic, French, Germanic and Italian societies for free pizza and wine at the Pav, and then on to Doyle’s bar and the Long Stone pub, before hitting their final stop of the night: Tramline for Deep Freeze! Join the societies for, as Europa’s chairperson Luke Newcomb describes, “a night of languages, culture, and most importantly music, dancing, drinking games and without a doubt some late night shenanigans”.
The Phil Comedy Debate:
Before they all head out on the tear for Club Philthy, the Phil is hosting Gemma Hutton and Tony Cantwell in their comedy debate: “This House Would Get Lit and Resit”. Hutton is an activist for feminism and LGBT issues, and was the only woman to win BBC One’s show Find Me Funny. Cantwell, on the other hand, became an internet sensation after his “Meanwhile at Clongowes” sketch went viral. Seats will be scarce so be sure to head down early to secure your place.
Engineering Pub Crawl:
The Engineering Society is hosting their annual pub crawl tonight. They will be taking off their nerdy caps to let their hair down for this night of fun and you better be there to join them. You don’t need to be studying engineering to go along. Engineering Society is promising you will “make friends” and “have a laugh”. You’ll find them at 7pm outside the Pav.
