This month, the Irish Film Institute (IFI) is hosting its annual French Film Festival, running from the November 14th to November 25th. The festival will feature a plethora of screenings, talks, and events that showcases the best in French cinema. In the homely surroundings the IFI is famed for, guests will be at the forefront of the French filmmaking world. Encompassing fresh, vibrant love stories, filmmaking masterclasses and broody classics the festival is sure to appeal to varied audiences, and the programme is well worth a study.
Most excitingly, several events will be attended by some of the most notable names in French cinema, who will be on hand to introduce their films, answer audience questions, and contribute to the overall vibrancy of the festival.
Across the festival, the IFI will present screenings from one of France’s noted auteurs, Henri-Georges Clouzot, known as the French Hitchcock. The IFI will screen four of his most acclaimed works, which helped establish him as a powerful voice in the world of cinema. The screenings include The Mystery of Picasso, Les Diaboliques, The Wages of Fear, and The Raven. The films will be introduced by a variety of directors and critics of Clouzot’s work.
Also on November 17th, the IFI will welcome screenwriter and director Cédric Kahn to host a filmmaking masterclass. Kahn has directed films such as Roberto Succo, A Better Life, and Wild Life, and has appeared in the critically acclaimed Cold War. Tickets for the masterclass are currently priced at €5, a modest fee for an educational experience. The event will be hosted by Irish director Rebecca Daly, a graduate of theatre and English literature at Trinity.
The IFI will also play host to French filmmaker Andréa Bescond, presenting her film Little Tickles with director Eric Métayer on the 22nd, and Claire Burger. The level of talent and diversity on display at this year’s festival is exceptional. Tickets for the festival are priced at €11 for all films, with bundle packages available at €45 for five films.
