Eva Craig has been elected president of the JCR, after the results of the election for next year’s team were announced virtually this evening.
Craig, who ran unopposed, was elected on the first count with 172 votes. After her election, she said that despite running unopposed, she was “so nervous”. She added: “I’m so privileged to be part of the team next year.”
This year’s JCR committee, Craig added, “made it a year we will not forget” despite the pandemic, and the incoming committee would have “such big shoes to fill”.
Rory Chinn was elected vice president/treasurer, beating Síofra McCarthy for the position. In a cheerful victory speech, Chinn thanked Jesus, his grandparents and “all my mates”, as well as his campaign team and his opponent, among others.
Sanjana Pradheep was elected secretary, having run unopposed. Pradeep thanked the outgoing JCR committee, saying she was “so grateful for everything you’ve done this year”. She added: “I’m so excited to work with the next JCR team and learn as much as I can from the old one.”
Aoife Bennett was elected welfare officer, defeating Cora Joy. In her victory speech, Bennett thanked the current JCR and said that she was “really excited to be next year’s welfare officer”.
Olivia Orr will serve as next year’s JCR ents officer. She ran unopposed and received 134 votes. Jack Gonzalez, who also ran unopposed, was elected international officer.
The position of sports officer went to Fergal Mooney, who defeated Eli O’Neill in the race, while Edward Moss was elected music officer, defeating Patrick Kay.
Three members of next year’s JCR were appointed by an application and interview process. Lucy Bruton will serve as communications and marketing officer, Laura Brady was appointed publications officer and Aisling Gallagher was made technical officer.
In his closing remarks, Outgoing JCR President Alex Clark praised the “good natured” Halls community for their “resilience”. He added that Halls has “always been one big flat”, and encouraged residents to “greet each other as the brothers and sisters of the hardest year in halls” in the next academic year.
The JCR is a committee of residents of Trinity Hall (Halls) who organise events and act as representatives of Halls residents.
