Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) shop is to become an official stockist for the Together For Yes campaign from next Tuesday, selling merchandise in the lead-up to the referendum on the eighth amendment.
The shop, which is on the ground floor of House Six, will stock t-shirts, badges, stickers, tote bags, and other campaign paraphernalia up until May 25th. All proceeds will go directly to the Together for Yes campaign.
“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to open this pop up on behalf of Together for Yes”, said TCDSU President Kevin Keane in an email to The University Times. “Our students have been extraordinarily supportive of the campaign thus far, from canvassing to events and registering to vote.”
“Now, we are delighted to give our students the option of supporting the campaign visibly and financially, by wearing campaign merchandise”, he said.
Merchandise for the repeal campaign, in particular the well-known Repeal Project jumpers and Maser repeal the eighth t-shirts, has proven phenomenally popular and has long played a big part in promoting the movement. The House Six shop will join a long line of Together For Yes pop-up locations around the country. Just last night, crowds gathered in Temple Bar for the opening of a spacious new store. The shop offers campaign merchandise, including limited-edition coloured repeal jumpers, and information about the referendum.
With the referendum on whether to repeal the eighth amendment less than a month away, TCDSU and other student organisations around the country have begun intensifying their campaign efforts. This week, TCDSU ran several voter registration drives on campus, with nearly 1,000 students being registered in one day. Last week, the union also launched its #RingTheLads campaign, which urges men to talk about the eighth amendment.
“We are now less than three weeks away from May 25th, and the importance of showing your support for a Yes vote in your day to day life, by wearing Together for Yes branding, cannot be overstated”, said Keane.
