Today is the last opportunity to register to vote ahead of the referendum on the eighth amendment on May 25th.
The long-anticipated referendum will ask whether the eighth amendment of the Irish constitution should be repealed.
Should you wish to register by the end of today, you still have time to fill out your registration form or change of address form, have it stamped by a Garda and you can bring it personally to your local county or city council.
Recent weeks have seen students’ unions across Ireland run voter registration drives for people to be added to the register or change their address if they can’t make it home to vote. The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) last week said that it had registered nearly 27,000 students, with 8,000 people signed up in the last three weeks alone.
However, there are fears that around 150,000 young people are not registered to vote ahead of the referendum. Dublin City Council said that the number of people registering in the last few weeks is lower than before the marriage equality referendum in 2015.
In its voter drive last week, Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) registered nearly 1,000 people. Forms were handed out at the RDS and College Green in recent days.
Today, a Together for Yes pop-up shop will open in House Six.
