Trinity has been ranked among the top 50 universities in the world in 14 subjects in the newly published 2019 QS World University Subject Rankings.
In classics and ancient history, Trinity was ranked 13th worldwide, while in English language and literature, College placed 28th in the world. The College was also ranked top 50 in mineral and mining engineering, nursing, performing arts and pharmacy.
The College ranked number one in Ireland in 29 subjects overall.
In a press statement, Trinity’s Dean of Research, Prof Linda Doyle, said: “It is no mean feat to be in the top 100 in the world. At a time when the third level sector in Ireland is coming under ever-increasing pressure, for Trinity to be in the top 100 in the world for 20 different subjects is a great result and testament to our excellent staff and students. It also speaks to the breadth of expertise and diversity of our research strengths in Trinity.”
In more broad subject areas, Trinity was ranked 50th in the world for arts and humanities, 88th for engineering and technology, 89th for life sciences and medicine and 89th for social sciences and management.
In the summer, the College fell out of the top 100 universities in the world or the first time ever. Falling 16 places to 104th in the world, the College blamed higher education funding.
“Increased investments made by our global competition versus a relatively low government investment in Ireland, continue to have a direct impact on the rankings”, Doyle said in a press statement at the time.
The QS World University Rankings assess universities from all over the world, using academic reputation, research impact and employer reputation as indicators.
