Taoiseach Enda Kenny will launch the College’s 2014-19 Strategic Plan next week, The University Times has learned.

An Taoiseach will attend and speak at a launch event on Wednesday October 22nd, having accepted an invitation from Provost, Patrick Prendergast, last week.

The Strategic Plan is the articulation of College’s strategic objectives for the next five years. It is expected to deal with the issues of student numbers, non-exchequer funding sources, and curriculum reform.

Consultation on the document’s content has been ongoing for over a year and those represented on working groups include students, academic staff, administrative and service staff, and College executive officers.

The previous strategic plan prioritised, among other objectives, College’s globalisation mission and a re-evaluation of branding and identity. The former came into being in the form of the Global Relations Strategy, launched in 2011, and the Identity Initiative, which is now understood to sit on Trinity’s strategic back-burner.

Kenny had previously been invited to address the Global Graduates Forum in November 2013 but declined the invitation due to scheduling conflicts. His government was instead represented by now Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, a Trinity alumnus.
