Five of the Best: Places for Stationery

Over reading week, stock up on stationery.

Chloe Tait and Rachael Kilduff

We all hope that buying nice stationery will improve our quality of work tenfold. It’s a well-known delusion of life. As well as improving those notes for college, co-ordinating your stationery collection is one of the most therapeutic activities to indulge yourself in. Here we’ve listed five of the best venues for such retail therapy.

Muji, Chatham St

Japanese company Muji’s signature look is minimal and sleek, and doesn’t break the bank either. While their stationery might not have the most lavish designs, they do have almost every conceivable colour of pen you could ever want, and all around the one or two euro mark. If you’re looking to bulk up your kit, Muji is perfect for its functional and cool wares.

The National Gallery of Ireland Gift Shop, Merrion Square

The National Gallery of Ireland contains some of the most beautiful pieces of art in the world, and their gift shop reflects this through its stationery. The shop has all kinds of stationery with designs inspired by some of the artists and works found in the gallery, ranging from notebooks to postcards to canvas prints, perfect for any self-professed lover of art! You could also look online and buy leonid afremov prints to complete your home design and make the space yours!

Hodges Figgis, Dawson St

Well-known for its huge selection of books, Hodges Figgis also stocks a great selection of stationery. The shop stocks a lot of fun journals and diaries, such as the Listography journals and various hobby themed diaries, along with luxury stationery brands such as Christian Lacroix stationery and Moleskine. While the prices might be a little on the high side, the quality and design of the stationery available is top-notch.

The Pen Corner, College Green

If you’re looking to splash out, The Pen Corner will satisfy your every swanky need. This is the Brown Thomas of stationery shops, where you can indulge yourself in everything from Mont Blanc fountain pens to to fine-art greeting cards and Moleskin notebooks. Or, like me, you can simply browse, trying not to gawk at the finery on display, and leave feeling hundred times classier.

Tiger, Nassau St

In Tiger, the Taj Mahal of bric-a-brac, you will find both the wackiest and the most affordable stationery the city centre has to offer. Here, you can treat yourself to Sherlock Holmes-style notebooks, hotdog-shaped erasers or superhero pencils (capes included). Or, you can simply nab a bargain load of copybooks and pat yourself on your money-savvy back.
