On-campus WiFi and other IT services will be unavailable for a period of two hours next Sunday, as maintenance work is carried out by IT Services.

In an email sent to all students and staff this morning, College’s IT Services explained that between 8am and 10am on July 15th, students will lose access to a variety of online services, both on and off campus.

While printing services, swipe access to campus buildings, Myzone and email services will all remain available, students will be denied access to WiFi and other Trinity-related online services, such as the accommodation service. It will not be possible to log in to Blackboard during the “downtime”, but any students already logged in before the WiFi is switched off will be able to continue using the service.

Additionally, Trinity students attempting to use Eduroam WiFi on other campuses will be unable to log in during the two-hour window.

Trinity previously lost access to the Internet on Thursday, June 7th. On that day, the network’s firewall system was taken out of service and a temporary replacement system was used to restore internet services.

The fault with the original firewall system has since been rectified, and this two-hour shutdown will allow IT Services to switch from the temporary firewall programme back to the original one.

According to IT Services, the specific date was chosen “outside of normal college hours” in order to “minimise disruption as best possible”.
