As part of fourth week, DU Meditation Society is dedicating an entire day to the art of mindfulness. As you may have already heard, all events in fourth week are free to both members and non-members, and with the Christmas exams already lurking around the corner, these events will provide an introduction to meditation and relaxation that may prove useful in the coming weeks. DU Meditation will have events running throughout Mindfulness Day from 10am.

To start the morning off right, indulge in some meditation in the morning in Room 50 of the Atrium. The event may even take place outside in the Rose Garden, depending on the weather. The benefits of meditation are incredible and this morning session, running from 10am to 11am, will – at the very least – make that 9am tutorial worthwhile.

Every Tuesday, DU Meditation teams up with the Visual Arts Society (Vis Arts) and Trinity Botany Society for a Botanical Illustration Workshop. This event has proved hugely successful in recent weeks and will continue until December 11th. It is held at 1pm in the Anatomy Building, which is just behind the Pav. There are plenty of pencils, sketchbooks and plants provided. All you need to do is go and release your inner Pablo Picasso.

At 2pm, the society will provide a spread of tasty food in Room 50 of the Atrium, which the group “will eat using the principles of mindfulness”. This is the perfect mid-afternoon break to remain in a state of peace during lunchtime, without the hustle and bustle of queuing for the Perch or Lemon ruining your tranquility.

Finally, the day will end with a bang at 7pm in Room 5039 of the Arts Block, as The Celtic Breathwork Community will be providing a free shamanic deep breathing workshop.
This workshop focuses on the healing powers of conscious connected breathing. The final phase of this workshop will be done lying down, so be sure to bring a blanket or yoga mat of some sort. Places are limited to 30, so be sure to get there early. The instructor has also requested that you don’t eat any food in the hours prior to the workshop.

The session will begin with shamanic rattles and drums sounding for approximately 45 minutes. After this, you will enter the final 20 minutes of meditation for the day.

Mindfulness Day offers a unique chance for students to learn the skill of meditation and mindfulness – something that has proven to relieve stress.
