Trinity has dropped 34 places in the most recent world university rankings. While the school was previously ranked as 139th in the world, it has since dropped down to 173.
The rankings are compiled by Times Higher Education (THE). THE uses eighteen different performance indicators which are grouped into five areas of teaching, research quality, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry.
Trinity scored an average of 60.5, with the highest scores being a 91.2 in international outlook and 83.2 in research quality. The lowest scores were in teaching, which scored 42.8 and 44.9 in the research environment. Finally, Trinity scored a 76.2 in the industry.
Trinity still remains Ireland’s leading university in the world rankings. Dublin City University (DCU) is ranked amongst the top 350 universities. Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) takes 198th, and University College Dublin (UCD) takes 201-250th.
Despite low scoring in the THE ranking, Trinity received its highest ranking ever in the QS world rankings early this year, securing the 75th spot.
The top three spots were taken by the University of Oxford in first place, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in second, and, finally, Princeton University in third.
