At 8:07pm, Eoghan Gilroy announced the results in the race for the newly established Graduate Officer. Ava Tuohy was announced as the winner on the first count, having received 2300 votes, or 73.4 per cent of total valid votes cast. Ní Chléirigh received 586 votes, with Re-Open Nominations (RON) receiving 247 votes.
This result confirms the University Times’ election poll, which had predicted a win for Tuohy by 67 per cent. Ní Chléirigh had been predicted to receive 25.3 per cent of the votes, with RON making up 7.7 per cent of poll votes.
Accepting his win, he first thanked everyone who offered support during the campaign, further, he stated that “I will fight for a union that will represent you just as well as it has represented your undergraduate peers”.
Tuohy’s campaign focused largely on improving amenities and accessibility in postgraduate spaces on campus, as well as lobbying for postgraduate workers’ rights. Ní Chléirigh, on the other hand, had focused their campaign on improving the communication between postgraduate students and undergraduate students, with an emphasis on utilising his own experience to facilitate this.
