At 8:17 pm on Friday night, Gilroy announced the results of the election for Trinity College Dublin Student Union’s (TCDSU/AMLCT) next Communications and Marketing Officer. Matthew Kurt took the lead, having received 2138 votes on the third count, making up 54 per cent of total valid votes cast. Alice Moran was eliminated on the second count, having received 813 votes after the votes for Re-Open Nominations (RON) were redistributed. Promise Okafor was then eliminated after the redistribution of Moran’s votes, having gathered 1550 votes, or 39.2 per cent of the valid redistributed votes.

This result confirms the results of the University Times’ election poll, which had predicted 48.7 per cent of votes for Kurt, 23.9 per cent for Okafor, 17.3 per cent for Moran, and 1.6 per cent for RON. Jacob Barron, who has since dropped out of the race, had received 8.5 per cent of poll votes at the time.

Celebrating his win, Kurt expressed appreciation for his co-contesters Moran and Okafor, saying that they “have been the loveliest”. He emphasised that campaigning has been emotionally difficult for him, and affirmed that he would push to “end the exclusivity deal with Coca Cola”.

Kurt’s manifesto includes expanding the Union’s online presence to include more video content, improving collaborations, and increasing accessibility of student services.
