Mitzy An Jiménez, a Master’s student in Screen Studies and School of Creative Arts Postgraduate Convenor, notified the University Times around 3pm this afternoon (February 11th) that she would no longer be seeking election as the Graduate Officer. In a statement to the University Times, Jiménez said: “I’ve reflecting [sic] on different aspects of my life and what I have been experiencing lately. I had to make the decision to put myself first. I didn’t want to continue on this campaign while feeling like I wasn’t able to give it my all. I wish the best of luck to the other candidates and am very excited to see what they do for the role!”

Jiménez, in an interview with the University Times on February 10th, described her motivation for her campaign by saying: “I don’t want to be a wallflower, I want to be involved in my community.”

Her primary focus for her campaign was on building community through more events for postgraduate students, with a target of one event every week, and in improving postgrad student spaces. Another focus was eliminating hidden costs in postgraduate programmes, with her programme requiring the purchase of expensive industry-standard software not communicated prior to enrolment.
