A Bus Éireann crash on North Earl Street today, February 5th, has caused the death of one pedestrian and the injury of several others. Road closures are in effect on Talbot and Marlborough streets, as well as traffic disruptions at many of the surrounding streets near the Dublin Spire.
The bus, according to reports, entered the pedestrianised area of North Earl Street directly before the crash. Emergency services and gardaí responded to the incident only a few minutes after the crash, at around 12:30 GMT. Green-line Luas services in the area were also reportedly disrupted, but are now operating with delays, according to an X post from Luas.
“Emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel attended the scene”, said a spokesperson from the bus company.” Bus Éireann is offering its full support to the relevant authorities and will provide any additional assistance required. No further information is available at this time.”
Several local politicians have offered sympathy and support, including Sinn Féin leader and TD for Dublin Central Mary Lou McDonald.
Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam also offered his sympathy, “My thoughts are with those who have been injured and with their families at this difficult time,” the Lord Mayor said.
“My thoughts are with the family of the deceased and all of the people who were struck or caught up in this collision, with their families, friends, and loved ones, and with everyone affected by what must be a very frightening experience,” Ms McDonald said, in her statement.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the bus was not in service at the time of the incident.
