AMLÉ Elections at Trinity Results Announced

Trinity students voted for their preferred candidates to be endorsed at the AMLÉ leadership elections next week

The results of the AMLÉ elections at Trinity were announced on Friday, 27th of March at 6:45pm. AMLÉ (Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn, formerly USI) is Ireland’s national student union. 21 delegates from the Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) will be attending the AMLÉ leadership elections next week, and are mandated to vote in line with the preferences of Trinity students indicated by the election that took place this week.

In the election, Daniel Walsh was elected as Trinity’s preferred presidential candidate for AMLÉ on the first count. Walsh gathered 307 votes, and came ahead of Dara Lenihan, the current Technological University of Shannon Students’ Union (TUS SU) president who gathered 95 votes, and RON, who gathered 84 votes. Walsh is AMLÉ’s current vice-president for the Dublin region, and previously served as a Part Time Officer in the TCDSU.

Emma Muldoon Ryan, now serving as AMLÉ Vice President for Academic Affairs was elected as Trinity’s preferred candidate for the same position. Zuzanna Chadzińska, of the Dublin City University Students’ Union (DCU SU), was elected as the preferred candidate for Vice President for Welfare.

Gearóid Folan, TUS SU Vice President for Education and Welfare was elected as the preferred candidate for Vice President for Campaigns.

Hamza Bana, TCDSU’s Welfare and Equality Officer in the academic year 2024/2025 was elected as the preferred candidate for Vice President for Equality and Citizenship on first count (330 votes), ahead of Karl Ormsby (DCU SU President 2024/2025) who gathered 154 votes.

Emil Kindl, President of the Atlantic Technological University of Sligo Students’ Union was elected as the preferred candidate for the Vice President for the Border, Midlands and Western Region. Shauna Dalton from the University College Cork Students’ Union for Vice President for the Southern Region and Lauren Joyce, of DCU SU, for the Dublin region.

Pádraig Mac Brádaigh, Trinity’s first full-time sabbatical Oifigeach na Gaeilge (Irish Language Officer) and current AMLÉ Leas-Uachtarán don Ghaeilge was re-elected as the preferred candidate for the position. Alex Candon (DCU SU) was elected as the preferred candidate for Vice President for Postgraduate Affairs on the third count.

The AMLÉ leadership elections will take place on the 4th of April, at the annual Comhdháil in Sligo, with the Trinity representatives voting according to the results above. All three Trinity students and graduates running have been chosen as the University’s preferred candidates.
