Now that the frosty winter weather is upon us, you may feel the urge to find something a little stronger to numb the cold. To satisfy this thirst, we endeavoured to find the tastiest and toastiest Christmas cocktails around town – something with a kick that will warm you up from the inside out.
Urchin, St Stephen’s Green
The Ferrero Rocher Cocktail is a heavenly mix of vodka, cacao white, hazelnut syrup, Ovaltine chocolate and a dash of milk. It is garnished with a finely crushed Ferrero Rocher rim, and an entire Ferrero Rocher attached to the base to nibble on.
Bow Lane, 17 Aungier St
The Winter Warmer Hot Cups are a tantalizing selection of toasty beverages to sip this festive season. All €9, the Bow Lane Hot Cup 9 includes Beefeater gin, Aperol, sugar, lemon, maraschino cherry and berry tea. It has a bitter-sweet flavour with a fruity finish. The Satin & Silk 9 is a boozy hot chocolate, an ideal option when entertaining parents on a trip up from “the country” to see you – it looks innocent! The cocktail includes Jameson Black Barrel, dark chocolate liqueur, milk, homemade chocolate ganache, Aztec chocolate bitters and double cream. Finally, my personal favourite, The Easy Peeler 9, it feels like you are throwing back some Christmassy apple juice.
Vintage Cocktail Club, Temple Bar
Crown Alley Punch-Up is a cocktail that is bound to get you in the festive mood. It consists of Powers Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, Irish whiskey marmalade, apple and cinnamon tea, Jerry Thomas Aromatic Bitters, fresh citrus, with a cinnamon stick and a fan of apple. It’ll put the fire in your belly.
Peruke & Periwig, Dawson St
The Blazer cocktail might seem small, but it certainly packs a punch. It is undeniably considered a winter warmer. It consists of whiskey, homemade ginger syrup, orange bitters and tangy orange peel.
Zozimus, South Anne St
The very reasonably priced Blazed Hot Toddy, at €7.50, is the ideal seasonal tipple. The combination of Teelings whiskey, mixed with pimento, honey and hearty spices, makes this a very worthy contender for fighting off the cold.
