It’s time to finally get out of your pyjamas and leave the house after days of being cooped up due to the melodrama of Storm Emma. Brush off the snow, and get right back into the swing of socialising with some of the events Trinity’s societies have planned for this week.
Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) has events running all week to celebrate International Women’s Week.
Monday
At 7.30pm in the Robert Emmet theatre, DU Hispanic Society and Trinity’s Department of Hispanic Studies will be presenting The Herspanic Week Lecture as part of International Women’s Week. The lecture is entitled “Re-framing the Latina Body in Contemporary Latina Visual Culture” and will be given by Dr Catherine Leen, Senior Lecturer and Head of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Maynooth University.
Tuesday
Have you ever considered a career in politics? Yes? Well, this is the perfect event for you. Senator Aodhán O’Riordan will be speaking about his time as TD, Senator and as a government minister, and giving advice on how to start out in Irish politics. Join Trinity Politics Society and hear from the experts at 7pm in 2041b about what it’s like to have a career in Irish politics.
Wednesday
The second annual TEDxTrinity conference will be held this Wednesday at 2pm in the Science Gallery. The theme of this year’s conference is “Portals of Discovery” – a quote taken from James Joyce’s Ulysses. Tedx Trinity has lined up an amazing panel of speakers, including Tomi Reichental, with his talk titled “I Was a Boy in Bergen-Belsen”, and Mark and Andrew Ansell presenting their talk “Homeless to Silicon Valley: A Life Without Fear”.
Thursday
As part of International Women’s Week in Trinity, the Pav will be hosting All Gals on Decks. At 8pm, female DJs will take over the Pav for a night of empowerment and celebration of women in the electronic music industry.
Friday
The benefits of practicing meditation during menstruation are plentiful. Join DU Meditation at 10am in Room 50 of the Atrium for a special meditation session about how to, and why you should, meditate during your period. Research has proven that meditation has shown to ease pain and discomfort during that time of the month. Don’t believe it? Come along and find out for yourself!
