University College Cork (UCC) has been named Best Student Campus at the Education Awards, with Trinity’s International Marketing Team taking home the award for Best Marketing/Communications Team.

This award comes as Trinity has placed increasing emphasis on increasing its number of international students, international research collaboration and ties with other universities around the world.

The Education Awards, presented at a ceremony in the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin last night, recognise excellence in higher education in Ireland, with awards acknowledging achievements in numerous aspects of the third level sector, in particular those that affect student performance.

Trinity is also currently one of four universities in Europe shortlisted for the 2017 European Association for International Education (EAIE) Institutional Award for Innovation in Internationalisation, awarded to European institutions that demonstrate best practice in the internationalisation of higher education. The winning university is expected to be chosen in August 2017.

Trinity’s five-year strategic plan states the College’s intention to increase the number of non-EU students in Trinity from 7.8 per cent in 2012 to 18 per cent in 2019. In April 2017, The University Times reported that Trinity’s Global Relations Office is estimated to meet 91 per cent of its target for income from international students in the 2016/17 academic year.

Trinity has also worked to expand its alumni network, holding over 150 events held around the world, and has appointed 20 Global Ambassadors within its on-campus Global Room. Trinity was also accepted as a member of the prestigious League of European Research Universities (LERU) in 2016.

Also among the prize winners last night were Dublin Business School (DBS), which received awards for Best Library Team and Best Student Experience. Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) was recognised for its Student Engagement and Communications.

Ruth McDonnell, Head of Media & PR at UCC said in a press statement: “We’re delighted to be honoured and recognised nationally with this award. Our work allows us to promote the exciting research and world-class student experience at UCC.”
