Exams may be on the horizon but there's still time for some festive fun.

It’s time to put those library books away (temporarily) and join in on the festivities, as Trinity’s societies round out the semester with their annual Christmas parties.

Monday

Join the University Philosophical Society and DU Food and Drink for “A Prohibition Christmas”. Meet at the Graduates Memorial Building (GMB) in your best 1920s Gatsby-esque get up, for food, drink and live jazz. The night will end with a speakeasy at 4 Dame Lane.

At 6.30pm in the Schrödinger Theatre, DU Physics Society is hosting a talk on quantum nanophotonics, because what says Christmas better than quantum nanophotonics? Free tickets for the talk, given by Rumford Medal winning Professor Ortwin Hess, are available through the society’s Instagram.

Tuesday

DU Zoological Society is hosting special guest Gerry Creighton for a talk on Global Elephant Care. The event will be held at 7pm in the Botany building lecture theatre. Tickets are €3 and all proceeds go to the conservation effort.

At 6.30pm, DU History will host its Christmas mixer. The location will be confirmed on the society’s Instagram. Like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, this event is sure to go down in history.

Wednesday

Polish your skates, because at 6.10pm in Blanchardstown, the TCD Korean Society and the TCD Japanese Society are ice skating the night away. Limited places are available by contacting the societies directly.

At 6pm, the Trinity Afro-Caribbean society will host its Christmas party in 4 Dame Lane. The night promises free shots, cider, pints, cocktails and a chance to win a pair of AirPods or a Christmas hamper. Tickets are available through the society’s Instagram.

The College Historical Society will collaborate with DU History for its weekly chamber debate. This week’s motion is “This House Regrets the Anglo-Irish Treaty”. The debate will take place at 7.30pm in the GMB, and hopefully this iteration will be less contentious than its predecessors.

Thursday

Wine and dine with DU Photography Association during the annual Christmas exhibition, taking place at 6pm in Fumbally Stables. Ticket information will be posted by the society during the week.

8pm marks the most wonderful time for a beer with the DU DJ Society for its Christmas night out in Bow Lane. The theme: “A Rave in a Manger”. Tickets cost €5 and can be purchased through the society’s Instagram account.

Friday

The TCD Genetics Society will meet at 8pm in Chaplins, for a night of pipetting, karaoke and Christmas cheer. Tickets are €2, and all attendees must wear their ugliest sweater.
