DU Yoga Society
Did last year’s exam stress get too much? Do you need an outlet other than doomscrolling? Yoga Soc offers classes for all levels, and their teachers are always ready to help or adjust poses to ensure that even as a beginner, you get the most out of a class. Once a member, you can sign up to individual classes throughout the year. They also host collabs aimed at promoting mindfulness and relaxation away from the mat, which usually involve a sweet treat or two.
TCD Knitting Society
Because you said you would learn a craft this year… and last year. Knitting Soc hosts weekly meet ups where you can bring the latest project to work on, as well as a range of classes on knitting, crochet, embroidery, and more. Watch out for beginner friendly intro to set you on the path to master knitter. Maybe by the end of the year you will finally finish that skinny scarf.
Trinity Hiking Society
New year, new commitment to actually getting outside. Hiking, sea swims, fresh air, it’s a perfect way to start the year and embrace all the gorgeous views Ireland has to offer.
Ankle support hiking boots are essential for all weekly hikes, and even if it’s your first time, they organise beginner friendly trials to help you ease into hiking.Even if you come back exhausted, you will get some great photos out of it, and some vitamin D (hopefully).
DU Alternative Music Society (DUAMS)
If Geese are a bit too mainstream for you nowadays, DUAMS might be the place for you. For those whose New Year’s Resolutions involve going to more gigs, finding new bands to follow, and perhaps starting one of your own, DUAMS might be the place for you. They host a weekly coffee hour as well as open mics and gigs throughout the term (because there is always a reason to go to Workmans).
An Cumann Gaelach
Are we in the second Irish Revival? Maybe? Is it time for you to brush up on your LC Irish / learn your own cupla focal? Definitely. An Cumann Gaelach aims to promote Irish for everyone, providing a great opportunity to be immersed through their pop up Gaeltacht, poetry nights, meetups, and collabs with societies across campus. It’s never too late to start learning!
