Starting today at 4:00pm Trinity College will be hosting the 8 x 8 Documentary Festival. The event, which previously ran in NUIG, UCC and UCD will last until Friday before moving on to DCU later in the month.

The festival is being organised by SUAS, a charity that promotes education in disadvantaged communities in Ireland and in developing countries. The goal of the event is to “present students with the opportuity to explore key global issues in a way that challenges assumptions and perspectives, and inspires action for change”.

8 x 8 consists of 8 documentaries  which cover a wide range of development issues. Many of the films that will be shown have screened at major international film festivals and have received nominations for numerous awards.

On top of the screenings there will be workshops hosted by visiting directors and producers. There will also be panel discussions on the issues explored in the films.
